It all started innocently enough way back in the Spring of 2005 with me trying to rally some of my best girlfriends to get away for a girls' weekend. It just seemed like it would be more fun for all of us to have a common purpose for our time away. So, I anointed all of us “Queens” and told everyone they had to come up with their own Queen Name and we would make this Queens Retreat an annual event.  We had a blast and I realized this was a fun way for every woman to reconnect and revitalize the relationships that mean so much to us.

So the idea of beaQueen.com was born... a chance for Queens to reconnect by getting together for Queens Retreats or stay connected more conveniently by communicating online. I envisioned a central location offering ideas on how each woman could make every outing with her best girlfriends special and offer tools to help organize and manage the multiple groups of girlfriends that every woman has.  Of course, SHOPPING, too – everything every Queen should have – rare treasures to must-have necessities.

Why a web site?
Every woman I know leads a fast paced and hectic life. Young or not-so young, single or married, working outside or inside the home, no kids or lots of kids; every one of them struggles every day to steal a little time for themselves and, if they’re lucky, their best girlfriends. We all only get 24 hours in every day. I believe that this site will help every woman free up that elusive time for herself and her best girlfriends and by doing so will give all Queens a new and reenergized attitude that will make them better friends, co-workers, neighbors and moms and help them conquer the many other challenges in their lives.

As each one of you recruit more and more of your best girlfriends to become Queens and all of you share your pictures, ideas and stories about how you treat yourself and your best girlfriends like Queens every day, the site will become an extremely valuable and ever evolving marketplace of tips, hints, and ideas that can turn simple outings into memorable Queens Retreats. 

And then there were two…
Since the first Queens Retreat, one of the “Founding Queens” started another Queen Group with her neighborhood gal pals and called it the “Richmond Queens”. Ten more Queens staged their own Queens Retreat and had a ton of fun planning it and taking the time together. This is exactly the idea. And when one of our “Founding Queens” was diagnosed with breast cancer in the Summer of 2007, we formed another group, the “Pink Ribbon Queens”, for support. We then organized a team for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure that raised thousands of dollars all while wearing our Pink Ribbon Queen t-shirts! This brought a whole new dynamic to the beaQueen idea and gave us our charitable cause.

My hope and dream.
I hope that by reviewing and hopefully participating in the beaQueen.com site, every woman will recognize that they are a true Queen deep down inside. They first must adopt the Queen attitude (deserving of respect and the finest things in life, but always being aware of their personal responsibilities) and begin treating themselves with respect as well as the people around them.

REMEMBER:  We are Queens, not princesses. Queens are sophisticated and responsible. Princesses are either little girls or the Britney/Paris Hilton types. Big difference. Queens still have a lot of fun, but Queens have matured beyond the princess phase and understand that people count on them every day and they bear great responsibility.

I want Queens all over the world to form their own Queen Groups with their many girlfriend groups (neighborhood girlfriends, work girlfriends, old high school girlfriends, etc.) and reconnect, stay connected and plan and have Queens Retreats big and small. After your Queens Retreat, please go to the Queen Group page for that Queen Group and share your photos and your stories about what you did. The other Queens in your group will appreciate the access to the photos and other Queens, that may not be as creative, will appreciate you sharing how you and your Queen Group made your Queens Retreat memorable.
